QT (Quiet Time)

QT, or Quiet Time, represents the part of our treatment that uses Mindfulness techniques to enrich the Reiki healing.

Mindfulness is the term given to a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.

It allows us a space to choose our response as opposed to reacting from our habitual thought programmes. From this ‘space’, we can have a clearer vision of what we may be experiencing in that precise moment – an understanding which equips us to respond, ‘rather’ than ‘react’. Responses are considered, measured and allow for us to make better choices, whereas reactions are involuntary and can often exacerbate a negative situation, rather than placate it.

Mindfulness is a life skill, and like any skill it takes time to learn. If practiced regularly it can become a default way of our thinking and can considerably improve the quality of our life by enabling us to have a true awareness of situations as they arise and by controlling our responses to them.

People are becoming more interested in this growing science-backed practice. Oftentimes a person comes across mindfulness when they want to find a pathway to a life of greater happiness, reduced stress and better relationships alongside understanding the causes of our physical and psychological suffering in order to prevent future recurrence.

Mindfulness practices can provide this pathway and this is increasingly borne out and validated by science.

Based on published studies, Mindfulness has been found to be effective in reducing levels of stress, increasing resilience and emotional intelligence. It also enhances communication skills and increases one's capacity to hold and manipulate information.

The most interesting and dramatic research has come from the field of Neuroscience. One study recently published, investigated the brain grey-matter concentration of participants of an 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programme (MBSR). The study showed that after eight weeks of mindfulness practice there were significant increases in grey-matter concentration in brain regions involved in learning and memory processes, emotion regulation, self-referential processing and perspective-taking.
